Tadeusz Tomasz \u015alipko<\/strong> \u2013 a Polish Jesuit, an ethicist. He was born on 18 January 1918 in Straty\u0144, in the Rohatyn region. He attended the King W\u0142adys\u0142aw Jagie\u0142\u0142o Primary and Secondary School in Gr\u00f3dek Jagiello\u0144ski. He passed his secondary school finals in 1936. A year later he started studying geology at the Faculty of Maths and Science of Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv, and in 1938 \u2013 Polish literature and History at the Faculty of Humanities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 12 October 1939 he joined the Society of Jesus and here, from 1941 to 1944, he studied philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Society of Jesus in Krakow, which \u2013 because of the war \u2013 was moved to Nowy S\u0105cz. He studied theology in 1944\u20131948 at the Jesuit Faculty of Theology of Bobolanum, where he obtained his BA in theology and philosophy. In 1947 he was ordained priest by the bishop of Przemy\u015bl \u2013 Franciszek Barda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1948\u20131952 he studied social ethics at the Faculty of Theology of the Jagiellonian University (UJ) in Krakow. A year later he continued his studies at the Faculty of Humanities of that university. In 1949 \u2013 after the Council of the Faculty of Theology confirmed the completion of his order studies \u2013 he obtained the Master\u2019s degree in social ethics. In 1952, based on the dissertation \u201cZasada pomocniczo\u015bci\u201d [The Principle of Subsidiarity<\/em>], he became a Doctor of Theology. He wrote that dissertation under the supervision of Fr. prof. W\u0142adys\u0142aw Wicher and Rev. Jan Piwowarczyk. Also, in 1952 he completed his philosophical studies at the Faculty of Humanities of UJ, with the master\u2019s degree in sociology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 1948, Rev. prof. Tadeusz \u015alipko carried out his didactic work at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Society of Jesus in Krakow. In 1963 he was employed as a lecturer of general ethics at the Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Krakow, and in the university year 1965\/66 he became an assistant professor at the chair of ethics of the Faculty of Christian Philosophy of the Academy of Catholic Theology (ATK) in Warsaw where he worked for 32 years. In 1982 he obtained the degree of an associate professor. Fr. prof. \u015alipko is believed to be one of the greatest representatives of ethics oriented at Thomism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fr. \u015alipko\u2019s scientific interests include three directions. The first one includes analysing, methodological arrangement and critical analysis of the Marxist concept of morality. Such issues are discussed in the monograph \u201cMarksistowska doktryna moralno\u015bci\u201d [The Marxist Doctrine of Morality<\/em>] (1962), which has not been published as a book. This area of interest is also reflected in dissertations on the concept of independent ethics which refer to the philosophical works of Kotarbi\u0144ski or Cze\u017cowski. Second, \u015alipko aimed at detailed description of various moral issues due to their validity, comprehensiveness and polemical nature. It is reflected in works such as: \u201cZagadnienie godziwej obrony sekretu\u201d [The Issue of a Decent Protection of a Secret<\/em>] (1968); \u201cEtyczny problem samob\u00f3jstwa\u201d [The Ethical<\/em> Question of Suicide<\/em>] (1970, 19782<\/sup>); \u201c\u017bycie i p\u0142e\u0107 cz\u0142owieka\u201d [Human Life and Sex<\/em>] (1978); \u201cPrzedma\u0142\u017ce\u0144ska etyka seksualna\u201d [Premarital Sexual Ethics<\/em>] (1978); \u201cGranice \u017cycia. Dylematy wsp\u00f3\u0142czesnej bioetyki\u201d [The Borders of Life: Dilemmas of Contemporary Bioethics<\/em>] (1988); \u201cZa czy przeciw \u017cyciu? Pok\u0142osie dyskusji (Problem aborcji)\u201d [For or Against Life? Results of the Discussion (The Issue of Abortion)<\/em>] (1992); \u201cRozdro\u017ca ekologii. Ekologiczna doktryna Ko\u015bcio\u0142a\u201d [The Crossroads of Ecology: The Ecological Doctrine<\/em> of the Church<\/em>] (co-author: A. Zwoli\u0144ski) (1999); \u201cKara \u015bmierci z teologicznego i filozoficznego punktu widzenia\u201d [Capital Punishment from the Theological and Philosophical Point of View<\/em>] (2000), and \u201cHistoria etyki w zarysie\u201d [The Outline of the History of Ethics<\/em>] (2010). Third, \u015alipko carried out the research on the system approach to depositum doctrinale<\/em> of the Christian ethics, which resulted in two fundamental works: \u201cEtos chrze\u015bcija\u0144ski. Zarys etyki og\u00f3lnej\u201d [Christian Ethos: The Outline of General Ethics<\/em>] (1974 \u2013 1st<\/sup> edition, 1988 \u2013 2nd<\/sup> edition, modified and extended), and \u201cZarys etyki szczeg\u00f3\u0142owej\u201d [The Outline of Detailed<\/em> Ethics<\/em>] (1982 \u2013 part 1: \u201cEtyka osobowa\u201d [Personal Ethics<\/em>], part 2: \u201cEtyka spo\u0142eczna\u201d [Social Ethics<\/em>]).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
